I urge everyone to watch this documentary. No, it isn’t a typical long one. Rather, it is a short 39-minute documentary that focuses on an organization caring for underprivileged kids in the city of Masaka, Uganda. The organisation- Masaka Kids Africana provides for such children who are orphans or homeless or whose parents aren’t able to take care of them. Sunna is the founder of this organization, and he tells us the real intention behind this organization. For him, this is the noble cause of giving a better life to these kids. He goes on to say that the Masaka region has the highest number of HIV transmissions in Uganda, and most of these children are the ones who have lost either one of their parents. He doesn’t want children to die on the streets or get abused. Hence, through this organization, he hopes to give them a better and new life. And how do they do that? They do it by leveraging the power of music and dance. One thing I can vouch for is that the kids shown in this documentary are amazing dancers. Their moves are so clean and so cool. You can spot the genuine happiness on their faces when they are dancing or playing drums. For Sunna, this isn’t just any “project” that he has undertaken. He understands the pain of these children. And no, I am not saying it for the heck of it. He narrates to us his story where he left home because of the constant abuse he faced from his stepmother. These made him join the streets in order to fend for himself rather than continue in a house where he was continuously abused. He provides the children with food, music, and games to play.
Sunna is no ordinary man. It is he who ultimately recognized the children's talent and encouraged them to take up dancing. He made a video of his children dancing and uploaded it to YouTube. In no time, the video went viral. This led to Kenzo, the singer on whose song the children danced, getting in touch with him and organizing a concert in Masaka. It is so cute, Johnny, a man who once spent his childhood in this organization, imparts dance lessons to these children. Even today, these kids continue to remain popular, giving Masaka a global name. They dance and groove and make the whole world sway with them. Not only this, but the kids have even received international attention.
In just less than an hour, Sunna and his children make us realize and be thankful for what we have in life. Learning from his own adversaries, Sunna didn’t lose hope. In fact, he decided to ensure that the children don’t have the same fate as he did. He is on a mission to make the lives of such children better. Now, it is we who have to come forward and support him so that he can rescue many such kids and give them a chance to grow in life.
Final Score- [8/10]
