We have all heard about lie-detecting machines. But ever knew about a human who could do that> well, that’s the plot of “My Lovely Liar”. This kdrama is cute and interesting to watch, especially for the premise. It follows the story of Mok Sol-hee (played by Kim So-hyun). She is gifted with the ability to hear lies, which naturally led her to keep a safe distance from people. But she is a smart woman. Instead of getting afraid of knowing and speaking the truth, she decided to make good use of her abilities. Now we have another character named Kim Do-ha, a reclusive songwriter played by Hwang Min-hyun. He was once a lively, happy-go-lucky person who, sadly, is now bowed down by her past. He hides behind masks in order to protect his real identity after being wrongfully accused of a crime. He speaks less and avoids lies altogether. What is interesting is that Mok Sol-hee couldn’t read him in the first go, which is strange because she is generally able to read through anyone.  This first encounter is sure to lead somewhere, but where? Are they two souls who were in search of one another and have finally found each other? Will Kim Do-ha open up more?

So, if we look carefully, there are two contrasting characters given to us in the form of Kim Do-ha and Mok Sol-hee. And this romance is captivating. It captures our attention in the ways it has been portrayed. The show captures their character development well through each episode. It goes into the past, the present, and the possible future. These two characters have a lot of love and comfort for each other, which is also evident. The writing has been done in such a way that it strikes a chord emotionally. You do feel for Kim Do-ha, but also feel happy to see the romance blooming.

The issue, however, lies with the side characters. They aren’t the best, and from the looks of it, it feels like the makers were too concentrated on the plot of the lead characters. This led to neglecting the plot for the side characters. It's not like they did not have enough scope. They did. And that could have made the show even more gripping and engaging. But the makers don’t give us that. Hence, we have to focus more on the story of the leads.  But the makers are sharp enough to understand that through the leads, the show is good enough to be watched.

The story also moves at a good pace. It keeps us engaged and doesn’t feel like it’s been dragged. Now this is particularly important because we have seen so many dramas where things are just getting dragged. But all in all, thankfully, the pace doesn’t weigh us down. Yes, as I mentioned, the lack of development of the side characters does make it feel that the plot is less intriguing. However, again, we are so lost in the leads that we easily forget that this was an issue.

So, viewers, this show can be given a watch. The acting is sweet and gentle, and most of us who are die-hard K-drama fans will enjoy this show where the leads are healing each other.

Final Score- [7/10]
