Netflix Renews ‘Young Wallander’ for Season 2

Based on the Novels by Henning Mankell, Season one of Young Wallander, Prequel to the BBC Series ‘Wallander,’ premiered in September 2020

Detective Kurt Wallander is set to return for another mission as Netflix has renewed the prequel series “Young Wallander” for season 2. Season one of the series premiered on Netflix on September 3.


The show is based on the Wallander novels, written by author Henning Mankell. Young Wallander follows the life of Kurt Wallander, Henning Mankell’s famous police inspector, in his 20s. We will see Kurt, who had just graduated. Becoming a police officer who investigates his first gripping case. The series is set in Sweden.

 

Swedish actor Adam Pålsson stars as the eponymous detective with Argo’s Richard Dillane and Black Mirror’s previously Leanne Best also starring. Pålsson takes on the mantle of Wallander after he was played by Kenneth Branagh in a BBC adaptation of Mankell’s books.


In the first season, after Kurt Wallander was unable to save a teenager from a gruesome attack, he had to learn to cope with his guilt in order to solve the crime.


The show cast includes Adam Pålsson as Kurt Wallander, Leanne Best as Frida Rask, Richard Dillane as Hemberg, Ellise Chappell as Mona, Sara Seyed as Jasmine, Yasen Atour as Reza Al Rahman, Jordan Adene as Ibra, Kiza Deen as Mariyam, Alan Emrys as Gustav Munck and Charles Mnene as Bash.


Ole Endresen and Jens Jonsson have directed the series with 3 episodes each in their credit. Anoo Bhagavan, Benjamin Harris has penned the script based on the novel.


The second season is likely to air in Summer, 2021.
