Netflix has revealed the first trailer (watch above) for its Swedish film ‘Vinterviken 2021,’ English title - JJ+E. The film is a modern adaptation of Mats Wahl's acclaimed novel Vinterviken, which was adapted into a successful film in 1996. Vinterviken (JJ+E) will arrive globally on Netflix on September 8 and Sveriges Television in 2022.
The trailer reveals the beginning of the love story between two teenagers in Stockholm city. Coming from a lower background, the trailer also suggests The Boy (John-John) working for a gang as he meets a girl in the school, after saving a little girl's life by jumping in the river.
The film is set in Stockholm 2021 and revolves around the love story of two teenagers, Elisabeth and John-John. They grew up in the same city but live light-years apart, socially, economically, and culturally. But when they begin in the same high school class, their two worlds collide.
The cast of the movie includes, Elsa Öhrn as Elisabeth, who is making her acting debut with this film. John-John is portrayed by newcomer Mustapha Aarab. The film also stars Magnus Krepper, Albin Grenholm, Otto Hargne, Loreen, Marika Lagercrantz, Simon Mezher, Jonay Pineda Skallak and Elsa Bergström Terent.
"JJ+E" production began in April of last year in Stockholm, Sweden. The Swedish language film is a modern adaptation of Mats Wahl's acclaimed novel Vinterviken and is co-produced by Filmlance, Netflix, and Sveriges Television.
Vinterviken 2021 is produced by Filmlance International, part of Banijay, with Teresa Alldén as producer and Alexis Almström as director. Dunja Vujovic has penned the script. The three of them have also collaborated previously on Top Dog, a TV series based on the Jens Lapidus trilogy.
