The wait is over as our much-awaited part 2 of the second season is finally here, as Wednesday Adams is back. Except she is in a coma. In order to wake her up, we see her mother reading her Macbeth because it is filled with death and tragedy. But Wednesday is not our sad girl. She wakes up from a coma and finds her ex-principal, Larissa Weems, as her spirit guide. And she does ask a very logical question: weren’t spirit guides supposed to be a relative? So we come to know that Weems was the Adams ' relative, with Weems serving as their 13th cousin. Pretty weird. Moving the focus to Pugsley, Wednesday’s brother, he is still on the lookout for slurp. Gomez tells him that forgetting one's first “pet” is hard, and thus, the father-son duo is on a mission to find slurp. Slurp, on the other hand, is wanted as he is perilous for the inhabitants. Nevermore Academy is celebrating the “Day of the Dead,” in which Tyler, who is also on a run, has informed Wednesday that he will kill her and her friend Enid.
Wednesday is in dire need to save Enid and suggests she go home for a few weeks, but she, being a true friend, refuses. Weems clearly tells her that Wednesday won't be able to prevent or face Tyler because she still his feelings for him, and for the spell to work, one must be free of those feelings of love and affection. What’s more is that we get to see Lady Gaga make a presence in the show through her character of Rosaline Rotwood. Though Rotwood is dead, she once served as a professor in the academy. She returns as a ghost and swaps bodies with Enid. I always thought Gaga would be a great fit for Wednesday, given her style and aura. And no doubt, she indeed doesn’t disappoint us with her gracious presence. She helps to break the spells and proves to be a big help to Wednesday. But the question is, does Wednesday defeat Tyler? Has her affection really turned into hatred for him, something which she tells herself and us, viewers too?
Part 2 is great and unleashes the full potential of a lot of characters. For example, Enid turns into a full werewolf, which is a sight to behold. This helps to settle scores with Tyler, too. It is because of her that Tyler is sent back to detention. Who would have thought that ultimately it would be Enid who would control Tyler and not Wednesday? Slurp, on the other hand, is sent back to Willow Hill after he kills someone. The character of Slurp helps us to know the character of Pugsley better. He has parents who are more invested in his older sister. Hence, he wishes for a “pet”.
What I love the most about this series is that it doesn’t slow down. It is fast-paced, which keeps you interested. And as promised, the story of Tyler and Wednesday, which was the focal point of season 1, continues in season 2 as well. However, her vision of Tyler being the Hyde is true, and the romance fades away completely in this season.
The cast, as always, is on point in creating a sense of eerie environment for us viewers. Also, I must say their costumes are very gothic and chic. I would say Wednesday is a new form of the modern world of witches. While they do rely on ancient books to create spells and psychic abilities, they also use phones and have a great social circle.
Final Score- [8/10]
