"Sex Education" leading star Asa Butterfield, who plays Otis in the show has confirmed that there will be a time-jump after season two, which ended with Jean’s (Otis's mother) pregnancy.

In an interview with the Guardian Butterfield told, "There’s a bit of a time-jump since the season two cliffhanger. Otis is back at school but he’s got different things on his plate. He’s grown up a bit and become slightly more sassy. It’s been fun to portray his newfound charisma. Don’t worry, though, he’s still tragically awkward too."

In the season finale, Jean was suffering from heart pains and headed to the GP for a check-up. It seemed like she was suffering from heartbreak after her split from Jakob. But after some tests, it was revealed that Jean was pregnant with his child. However, Jean did not tell Jakob about her pregnancy in the finale.

In the same interview, Butterfield has also hinted at what to expect from the relationship between Otis and Maeve, "People get quite cross when we tease them and stretch it out. Their relationship continues to develop in season three. We also explore why Otis was running his sex therapy clinic in the first place. Was it just to be close to Maeve or does he get fulfillment from helping people?"

Butterfield also clarified on Otis having a mustache in Season 3, "We got snapped by paparazzi while filming and people have been freaking out about Otis having a moustache. I can exclusively reveal it’s not real. It’s a stunt ’tache. And thankfully it doesn’t last the whole season. I don’t think anyone could bear looking at that thing for long."

Season 3 will also see some new faces in Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series), Jemima Kirke (Girls), and Dua Saleh. Season 3 is directed by Ben Taylor and Runyararo Mapfumo. Laurie Nunn, Ben Taylor, and Jamie Campbell are also Executive Producers on the series.

Sex Education season 3 is currently shooting in Wales. The filming started in September 2020 and will complete in February 2021. Season 3 is likely to premiere on Netflix by the end of spring or at the beginning of the summer, 2021.

Created and written by Laurie Nunn and produced by Eleven, Sex Education is about Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), a socially awkward high school student who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean, played by Gillian Anderson.
