Some Spider-Man: No Way Home fans may not be happy today as the film was snubbed at the Oscars after it didn't get the Best Picture nomination. However, there is still some really good news as the film has been nominated in the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars 2022.

Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings along with No Way Home are the only two films from Marvel to get the nominations this year. Both of them are in the Best Visual Effects categories. So, even at the best, Marvel will be getting only one winner this year.

The other nominees in the same category are - Dune, No Time to Die, and Free Guy. Competition is tough, but there is a good chance that one of the Marvel movies could be able to make it through.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" which is still playing in the theaters, is currently the most successful film at the box office after the Avengers: Endgame. So far, It has made $1.776 billion at the worldwide box office without the China release, and it is currently the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time. The film has made $749.5 million in the US and Canada, making it the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office.

Sony Pictures has campaigned heavily for No Way Home to get the Oscar nomination in the Best Picture category. Earlier, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were the Sony Pictures film to get the Oscar nomination in the same category (Visual Effects).

Meanwhile, Shang-Chi's nomination in the Best Pictures category is also a big boost for Marvel Studios as it brought their tally to 11 films (12 including NWH) getting the Oscar nomination until now. "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," which is available to stream on Disney+, also became the first MCU Phase 4 movie to get the Oscar nomination. Other MCU Phase 4 films, Black Widow and Eternals were not considered for any category. Shang-Chi made $432 million in its box office run, worldwide.

Previously, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman compared No Way Home to the Lord of the Rings trilogy while beginning the Oscar campaign for the film. “In the way, The Return of the King was sort of a celebration and culmination of all of that amazing work that had been done on that trilogy, this is a celebration both of our Homecoming trilogy and of the five other incarnations of Spider-Man that had happened before,” said Feige. Rothman agreed with Feige's point and called No Way Home, "a quality commercial cinema" arguing that Academy should consider it. “Black Panther was a quality commercial cinema. It is essential that the Academy does not lose its connection with quality commercial cinema,” said Rothman.

Below is the list of the films that got nominated for the Best Picture category in Oscars 2022. Additionally, No Way Home star Andrew Garfield has got the Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category for his Netflix film, "Tick, Tock... Boom!."
