We are just a couple of weeks away from the release of one of the most-awaited superhero series, Spider-Noir, but its release strategy is ready to spoil the show for most of the fans before they can legally and officially watch it.
Spider-Noir, the live-action TV series starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly/Spider-Man Noir, premieres on MGM+ (US linear broadcast channel) on May 25, 2026 (entire season drops at once). However, it will release two days later on Prime Video (global streaming, including the US) on May 27, 2026. The problem with this release strategy is that before a legal Prime Video subscriber even watches the first episode, clips and spoilers from the show's finale will already be circulating on every social media website and app. Any legal contract does not bind all those social media users or NDA that stop them from sharing the spoilers from the show. Once the show premieres on MGM+, it will be immediately available on every pirate download and illegal streaming site. The paying subscribers of Prime Video will get to watch the show on the 27th, while those who rely on illegal downloads will be able to watch two days early.
I am not sure why a two-day delay was kept between the two streaming services, both of which are now owned by Amazon. Currently Streaming FROM also premieres on MGM+ as well as Prime Video. However, the difference between the services is only five hours as FROM premieres on Saturday evening on MGM+, while on Prime Video it releases on Sunday midnight. The only difference is that Spider-Noir won't be available to stream on MGM+ Streaming; it will be available on the MGM+ linear channel.
The staggered binge-release strategy for Spider-Noir is mostly a business/distribution decision by Amazon MGM Studios to juggle their own platforms. The show was produced exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video (via Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios). MGM+ still operates as a traditional cable/linear broadcast channel in the US (in addition to its streaming add-on). Amazon chose to give that linear channel the official premiere slot on May 25—classic TV-style "first look" for cable subscribers or MGM+ add-on users. Prime Video (the bigger global streamer) gets it two days later. Spider-Noir is only available on the linear channel for the early drop, then exclusively on Prime Video afterward. This creates an intentional 48-hour exclusivity window for MGM+ linear viewers.
Since Amazon owns both MGM+ and Prime Video, this lets them drive sign-ups to the $7.99/month MGM+ add-on (or keep cable linear subscribers happy). Use the linear channel for traditional "event" visibility and buzz. Still deliver the big global binge drop on Prime Video (in 240+ countries/territories). Amazon could have just dropped everything on Prime at once, but they opted for this hybrid model to maximize value across their different services.
"Spider-Noir" is a live-action series adapted from the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. It follows Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a battle-hardened, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who—after a shattering personal tragedy—is forced to confront his past while becoming the city’s only superhero.
Full cast includes Academy Award®-winning actor Nicolas Cage (Adaptation, Pig), Emmy Award®-winning actor Lamorne Morris (Fargo, New Girl), Li Jun Li (Sinners, Babylon), Abraham Popoola (Atlas, Slow Horses), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives, Acapulco), with SAG Award®-winning actor Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Day of The Fight), and Emmy Award®-winning and Academy Award®-nominated actor Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, Harry Potter). Guest star cast includes Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.
“Spider-Noir” is produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video. Emmy Award®-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directed and executive produced the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series with the Academy Award®-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Lord and Miller executive produce for their shingle Lord Miller, along with Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Amy Pascal also serves as an executive producer via Pascal Pictures. Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis also serve as executive producers.
