‘Stranger Things’ Spin-Off Series in Development at Netflix

Stranger Things 4, which is set to release in 2022, could also be the final season and close the current upside-down story

A Stranger Things spin-off series is in active development at Netflix, with Millie Bobby Brown and Duffer Brothers returning for the new series. 


During the Code Conference at the Beverly Hilton this Monday, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos indicated that the current "Stranger Things" series is just the beginning of a franchise. There are multiple spin-offs set in the Stranger Things universe, are in development.


Sarandos also hinted that Stranger Things Season 4 could be the show's final season, confirming prior reports. However, Duffer Brothers did hint at a fifth season last year.


According to Deadline, the first spin-off series is reportedly focussing on Eleven played by Millie Bobby Brown, who will also serve as a producer on the new series. The spin-off series will revolve around the events after Stranger Things and can be called a sequel to the original series. 


Millie will reprise her role as Eleven, who will be the protagonist of the series. Millie has previously indicated that She wants to see Eleven as a solo character in a film or series. "I hope she has the freedom to discover and understand herself without the need for boys or a male influence in her life so that the character can stand on its own and grow to appreciate herself."


Ted Sarandos also revealed the viewership data for top Netflix Shows, Bridgerton is currently the #1 original series with 82 million accounts watching and 625 million viewing hours in the first 28 days. Stranger Things 3 was seen by over 67 million subscribers in the first 28 days with 582 million viewing minutes.


Stranger Things 4 is currently scheduled to release sometime in early 2022. The fourth season, which now could also be the final season, has taken a long time on Season 4 production and possibly hints at a much longer season with more than usual episodes.


Below is the third teaser of Stranger Things Season 4 revealed during the TUDUM event. A fourth teaser will be also revealed this year before the main trailer and premiere in 2022.
