‘Sweet Tooth’ Officially Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix [Exclusive]

Netflix fantasy series ‘Sweet Tooth’ is officially renewed for a second season. The news comes at a time when pre-production on season 2 is already underway in New Zealand this month. Season 1 premiered on Netflix on June 4 and was seen by 60 million households around the world in its first month.

Netflix sent out a gift package to few selected people for announcing ‘Sweet Tooth’ season 2. The gift was wrapped in a paper, which says "DON'T UNWRAP UNTIL JULY 29." Inside the gift was a large chocolate bar with the words "Sweet Tooth Season 2" written on it.

At the end of season 1, Gus was captured by the Last Men, along with a slew of other hybrids. While he eventually found other kids like him, there is little question that they will strive to arrange their escape to return home. Meanwhile, Jepp, aka Big Man, and Amy eventually meet after she rescued him, and Amy is ready to try to save the kids from General Abbott. Season 2 will most likely begin where the first season concluded.

On June 11, one week after the first season premiere, Midgard Times was the first to break the season 2 renewal news.

Sweet Tooth has been dubbed the best Netflix fantasy series for the entire family and children to watch together.

Season 2 will see the return of Nonso Anosie as Jepperd, Christian Convery as Gus, Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear/Becky, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Singh, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh, Dania Ramirez as Aimee, Neil Sandilands as the evil General Abbot, and James Brolin as the narrator. "It's been both thrilling and heartwarming to see how people all over the world have fallen in love with our deer-boy," said showrunner Jim Mickle at the time of renewal. "We couldn't be more thrilled to continue working with Netflix and to continue following Gus and his buddies on their extraordinary journey."

The series, based on DC characters, is set ten years ago in a post-apocalyptic world after “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the earth and led to the strange emergence of hybrids — infants born part human, part animal. Many humans fear and hunt hybrids because they are unsure whether they are the cause or outcome of the illness. A protected hybrid deer-boy named Gus unexpectedly encounters a wandering loner named Jepperd after a decade of living safely in his remote forest home. They go on an amazing journey through what remains of America in search of answers—about Gus' origins, Jepperd's past, and the true meaning of home.

This is the latest series project based on a DC Comics Vertigo franchise, based on characters created for DC by Jeff Lemire. Previous adaptations include iZombie on The CW, Lucifer on AMC, and Preacher on The CW.

Mickle and Schwartz co-wrote the script, executive produced it, and are co-showrunners, with Mickle also directing. Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell from Team Downey have also executive produced alongside Linda Moran and Evan Moore as producers. Team Downey is producing it in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.  Oanh Ly (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) will join as a co-executive producer for season 2.
