The live-action Mexican adaptation of the famous trilogy of Graphic Novels American Jesus is finally coming to the small screen. Netflix has already revealed the trailer and the premiere date for the Spanish-language series, ‘The Chosen One.’ Created by writer Mark Millar and artist Peter Gross, The Chosen One will release on August 16, 2023, on Netflix, worldwide.


Originally titled, El Elegido, the series tells the story of Jodie, a twelve-year-old kid from Santa Rosala, Baja California Sur, who finds after surviving a bizarre accident that he possesses Jesus-like powers: he can transform water into wine, make the handicapped walk, and maybe even raise the dead. How will he deal with his fate and lead the planet through a battle that has been brewing for thousands of years?


‘The Chosen One’ stars Bobby Luhnow, Lilith Curiel, Dianna Agron, Jorge Javier Arballo, Carlos Bardem, Alberto Pérez-Jacome, Patricio Serna Meza, Juanito Anguamea, Alfonso Dosal, Sofía Sisniega, Eileen Yáñez, and Tenoch Huerta.


The series is directed by Everardo Gout based on a script written by Jorge Dorantes, Tina de la Torre, Kevin Rodriguez, Everardo Gout, Iturri Sosa, and Leopoldo Gout. Executive Producers are Stacy Perskie, Leopoldo Gout, Stephanie “Tuty” Correa, Everardo Gout, and Jorge Dorantes.


This Mexican production, starring Bobby Luhnow, Dianna Agron, and Tenoch Huerta, among others, is set in natural settings in the state of Baja California Sur, incorporating deeply local elements and traditions in an original way that enhances and contextualizes Mark Millar and Peter Gross' graphic work in Mexico.
