‘The Last of Us’ HBO Series Casts Pedro Pascal & ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Bella Ramsey

After officially confirming “The Last of Us” series adaptation last November, HBO has now cast Pedro Pascal as Joel and Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey in the role of Ellie.

Neil Druckmann, writer and creative director for “The Last of Us” video game and a co-creator of the series, confirmed the news about Bella on Twitter, writing: “We're absolutely thrilled to have Bella join the TLoU family!” also confirming Pascal as Joel, he wrote, “Aaaaand there’s the other half. Stoked to have Pedro aboard our show!” 

Craig Mazin (HBO’s “Chernobyl”), Neil Druckmann (“The Last of Us” and “Uncharted” video game franchises), and Carolyn Strauss (HBO’s “Chernobyl” and “Game of Thrones”) are executive producers along with Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Written by Mazin and Druckmann, the series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog produce.

Ramsey is best known for her role as Lyanna Mormont in “Game of Thrones.” She played a key role in the final two seasons of GOT. She has also appeared in the BBC Series "His Dark Materials."

Pascal has seen great success as the star of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian.” He also recently appeared alongside Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig as Maxwell Lord in “Wonder Woman 1984,” and in the Netflix kids movie "We Can Be Heroes."

“The Last of Us” video game was released in 2013, and it got very strong critical praise from industry critics and fans alike. It was reported last year that the game has sold more than 20 million copies in total in addition to having won numerous awards. “The Last of Us Part II” was released in June this year.

Based on the critically acclaimed video game “The Last of Us,” developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation® platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival. 

“The Last of Us” will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.
