The journey of the Umbrella Academy might be getting over with the upcoming fourth and final season, but it seems the journey of the Sparrows will continue in the form of a spinoff series.
As per Prod Week, an Umbrella Academy spinoff series, The Sparrow Academy is in active development at Netflix with Steve Blackman attached as an executive producer. Blackman is under an overall deal with Netflix and is also producing two other shows - Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital. Since The Sparrow Academy is yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix, Blackman is likely to go ahead with Horizon Zero Dawn first.
Currently, the executive producers attached to this spinoff series are - Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Scott Stuber, Beau Bauman, Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá, John Baldrica, Randi Richmond, Steve Blackman, and Jesse McKeown. UCP will produce the show for Netflix along with Irish Cowboy Productions, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Good One Productions.
The Sparrow Academy is an Academy of seven children born on the same day and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves following a change in the timeline caused by their counterparts, the Umbrella Academy. The Sparrow Academy is almost identical to the Umbrella Academy but built with what Hargreeves believes to be a better set of children. In the third season, The Sparrows, who are smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, instantly clash with the Umbrellas in a violent confrontation that turns out to be the least of everyone's concerns.
I am not sure how this series will deal with Sparrows, but it may work as a prequel set in an alternate timeline as almost all of the Sparrows died in the third season of the Umbrella Academy. But in the world of time traveling and the Multiverse, nobody dies forever. The actors who played the Sparrow Academy members in the third season may return, but it will also depend on how quickly it can get into production. Justin H. Min, Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez, Cazzie David, and Jake Epstein portrayed the Sparrow Academy characters.
In the Season 3 finale of The Umbrella Academy, everyone except Allison steps on the seven-star symbol, which activates the reset button but drains their powers. Allison kills Reginald and presses the reset button after realizing the process is killing them. Allison is reunited with Claire and Ray in the new universe, the Hotel Obsidian is gone, Luther is alive and no longer an ape-man, Five and Diego's severed limbs are recovered, Sloane is missing, and everyone has lost their powers. As the siblings divide, a resurrected Reginald surveys the city, which is now under his command, alongside his wife Abigail, who has resurrected. Ben rides the Seoul subway, which is similar to the one on which he was born, in a mid-credits scene.
The Umbrella Academy Season 4 is currently filming in Toronto and is confirmed to have only six episodes. Steve Blackman is the creator and showrunner while also serving as executive producer alongside Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jesse McKeown. Co-executive producers are Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the creators of the graphic novels that inspired this series. The show is produced for Netflix by UCP, a part of Universal Studio Group.
