Netflix has revealed the first trailer and a premiere date for its original Middle Eastern series, “AlRawabi School for Girls.” The series is a youthful high school drama produced with a full female Arab cast and crew. The Arabic-language series, “AlRawabi School for Girls” will release on Netflix on August 12, worldwide.

Written and directed by Jordanian director Tima Shomali in collaboration with writer Shirin Kamal, “AlRawabi School for Girls” is the story of a bullied girl seeking vengeance on her tormentors, only to discover that no one is all terrible or all nice, including herself.

The series stars Salsabiela A. as Roqayya, Joanna Arida as Rania, Yara Mustafa as Dina, Noor Taher as Layan, Rakeen Saad as Noaf, Andria Tayeh as Mariam, Faris Al Bahri as Ahmad, and Sameera Asir as Summaya. The limited series has six episodes.

The series was announced at the beginning of 2019 with an expected premiere on Netflix by the end of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020. But due to some unknown reasons, it missed the deadline, and it got further delayed due to COVID.

At the time when the series was announced, Tima Shomali said: “AlRawabi School for Girls is a project near and dear to my heart. It portrays the tales and difficulties of young Arab women in a way that we haven't seen previously in the region, especially with this age group. It's a show about women told through the perspective of women, and I am thrilled to be working with Netflix and having the opportunity to showcase the experiences of young women in our region on such a worldwide platform.”

Tima Shomali also participated in Netflix's Ramadan "She Rules" campaign in 2017, along with 30 other female content creators and social media influencers, to honor strong female leaders on and off the screen.

Al Rawabi School for Girls, developed in collaboration with Filmizion, is Netflix's second Middle Eastern original after Jinn, which includes a cast of Jordanian upcoming talent.
