This musical movie is one of the cutest things you will see on Netflix. The story, narrated by a bird named David, revolves around two communities of sneetches- moon belly sneetches and star belly sneetches. As the name itself suggests, moon bellies have a moon on their belly, while star bellies have a star on their bellies. These two communities don’t gel well with each other and live separately, with each member of the respective communities banned from entering the location. However, we have one young Sneetch who thinks differently- Stella Sneedly. When her teacher tells her to recite an oath which clearly says that they are better than the moon belly sneetch, she asks a simple question: have you ever met one to arrive at a conclusion? Now, that is a big eyebrow-raising question. With no one to answer her questions, she decides to find an answer herself.
With little monkey companion Bean, she takes off to the shores in the hope of finding a moon belly sneetch. As luck would have it, she found a fellow young moon belly sneetch named Pearl Puddlesnuff. Pearl is the complete opposite of Stella. She is shy and awkward, but together these two form a great friendship with Stella, even visiting Pearl’s home with a fake moon belly. Both the sneetches are intelligent, and they manage to invent wings to fly and a machine that could give them fake star and moon signs. But how long can they keep their friendships hidden from the adults? Someday, it will be discovered. And the question is: will the adult sneetches accept each other? Will the two young sneetch reunite them?
This was definitely a sweet watch. It is great for kids. The format is musical, so in between, you get to hear cute musicals getting played. At the same time, the use of rhyme as a poetic device in dialogues also enhances the overall listening experience. As an adult, I enjoyed watching it. So if you wish to watch it with your kid/kids, go ahead and get entertained.
The animation used is super sweet to see. The sneetches in yellow with their moon and star signs look too cute, and it cannot be missed. Even the voices given to them sound too adorable. The pacing is fast. So it gauges your child’s attention right from the start to the end. The plot line about bravery and unity is well explained throughout with the actions of our main Sneetches. All this makes this sweet little movie a great watch. Even the English used is simple and not complicated. And mind you, even though it is simple, it doesn’t mean it is bad. It is good and easily understandable by the kids. So get ready to have your children entertained with this amazing story.
Final Score- [8/10]
