Universal Pictures's upcoming thriller movie, ‘Cocaine Bear’ has officially started filming in Dublin, Ireland (Aug. 20). Producer Christopher Miller announced the production start news by unveiling the film's logo on Twitter.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear is described as a character-driven period piece that depicts a truly bizarre period in American history. The movie is set during real-life events relating to the dumping of approximately $14 million in cocaine in a Georgia forest.  A bear in the woods ate the containers and died from a massive overdose. Cocaine Bear will focus on the exploits of Kentucky drug smuggler Andrew Thornton II and how his 40 kilos of cocaine resulted in the death of a bear. Ray Liotta is playing the drug smuggler.

Written by Jimmy Warden, the film is expected to release later in 2022.

The cast of the movie includes Keri Russell, Ray Liotta, Margo Martindale, Godzilla star O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sweet Tooth star Christian Convery, Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju, Brooklynn Prince, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kahyun Kim, Scott Seiss, and Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich.

Along with directing, Banks is also producing the movie alongside Lord Miller's Christopher Miller, Phil Lord, and Aditya Sood. Max Handelman and Brian Duffield are also producing.
