Apple TV Plus has released the first look of its upcoming sci-fi series ‘Foundation’ based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov.

In this first released teaser trailer, showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer unveils a glimpse into the making of the epic saga, which chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.

The 10-episode series chronicles the epic saga of The Foundation, a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.

Foundation seems to be a high budget show and we can expect it to deliver a massive sci-fi epic on the scale of Dune or Game of Thrones, as the trailer suggests.

Foundation stars SAG Award-winner and Emmy-nominee Jared Harris as Hari Seldon; Lee Pace as Brother Day; Lou Llobell as Gaal; Leah Harvey as Salvor; Laura Birn as Demerzel; Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk; and Cassian Bilton as play Brother Dawn.

Attempts to adapt Foundation for the screen have stretched on for decades, with notable producers including Roland Emmerich and Jonathan Nolan at one point attached to find a way to translate Asimov’s series of novels. With television now a proven medium for epic storytelling on this scale, the time might now be right for this project.

While production on the show was suspended due to COVID-19 back in March, but by releasing this trailer at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple clearly means to make this series a major part of its future programming. There is no premiere date set yet, but Apple is fully prepared to get this show on it's platform before the end of 2021.

Foundation is executive produced by Robyn Asimov, David S. Goyer, Josh Friedman, Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. The series is produced for Apple by Skydance Television.
