Sony Pictures has revealed the first trailer for ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ the Spider-Man anti-villain, anti-hero film that stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character. ‘Kraven the Hunter’ will release on October 6, 2023, in theaters, worldwide.

The trailer (watch above) shows a glimpse of Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven's childhood where he is going on a hunt with his father played by Russell Crowe. The trailer teases a strained relationship between the father and son. Russell Crowe's character can be seen taunting a young Kraven to be weak just like his mother. In the same sequence, the trailer also reveals how Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven got his powers and became Kraven the Hunter. Later on, the trailer shows a lot of action-packed scenes filled with blood in different locations from the cold of Serbia to the streets of London.

Sony has also confirmed that the film will be R-rated, unlike the other films from Sony's Spider-Man universe. Set before his notorious vendetta with Spider-Man, Kraven the Hunter is the gritty narrative of how and why one of Marvel's most legendary villains came to be. The movie follows Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff, who is on a mission to show that he is the world's greatest hunter.

The film also stars Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger is playing Dmitri Smerdyakov aka Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Aleksei Sytsevich aka 'The Rhino', and Christopher Abbott.

Based on Marvel Comics, Kraven the Hunter is Directed by J.C. Chandor from a screenplay written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and David Householter.

Kraven the Hunter first appeared as an antagonist to the superhero Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man issue #15 in August 1964. He is the Chameleon's half-brother and a founding member of the Sinister Six. Kraven's real name is a Soviet immigrant, the son of a nobleman, who came to America with his family in 1917 after the Russian nobility had been destroyed by the February Revolution and the following collapse of Tsar Nicholas II's reign.
