After teasing it for a long time, Netflix has officially renewed ‘Squid Game’ for its well-deserved second season, even though the first season has a perfect ending.
The Korean-language series was a big hit last year on the streamer, where it broke all the previous records after logging 1.65 billion hours of viewership in its first 28 days, This is the highest for any Netflix series to date.
Netflix revealed a Red light greenlight teaser along with a statement from the creator to officially confirm Season 2. "It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever," says Hwang Dong-hyuk. "As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show."
Dong-hyuk also adds, "And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round."
Hwang Dong-hyuk has already confirmed that he is working on the Season 2 script, but it might not come sooner. He has hinted that fans can expect Season 2 to premiere in 2024 on Netflix.
