Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming history-drama “The Dig.” Directed by Simon Stone (The Daughter, theater work Yerma), the film will arrive globally on Netflix on January 15.
The film stars Carey Mulligan (An Education, Wildlife), Ralph Fiennes (The White Crow, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Lily James (Rebecca, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Johnny Flynn (Emma, Beast), Ben Chaplin (Apple Tree Yard, Mad Dogs), Ken Stott (Café Society, The Hobbit), Monica Dolan (Eye In The Sky, A Very English Scandal).
Inspired by a true story, “The Dig” revolves around WWII as a wealthy widow hires an amateur archaeologist to excavate the burial mounds on her estate. When they make a historic discovery, the echoes of Britain’s past resonate in the face of its uncertain future.
Moira Buffini has adapted the screenplay based on a book by John Preston. The film was supposed to arrive in 2020, but the production didn't wrap up on time due to COVID restrictions.
The film is produced by Gabrielle Tana for Magnolia Mae Films (Philomena, The Duchess). Ellie Wood, Murray Ferguson, and Carolyn Marks Blackwood have also produced alongside Tana. Redmond Morris is a co-producer.
