Netflix Reveals Trailer & Release Date for Fantasy Movie ‘Nightbooks’

Netflix has revealed the first trailer and set the premiere date for its upcoming movie "Nightbooks." Based on the horror-fantasy children's book by J.A. White, the film will be released on September 15 on Netflix, worldwide.


Nightbooks follows Alex (Winslow Fegley), a boy obsessed with scary stories, who is trapped by an evil witch (Krysten Ritter) in her magical apartment. In order to survive, he must tell a scary story every night to stay alive, he teams up with another prisoner, Yasmin (Lidya Jewett), to find a way to escape.


Directed by David Yarovesky (Brightburn, The Hive), the fantasy movie is written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart and The Curse of La Llorona), who has adapted the horror-fantasy children’s book “Nightbooks” by J.A. White for Netflix.


Nightbooks cast includes Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter as The Witch, Winslow Fegley as Alex, Khiyla Aynne as Jenny, Lidya Jewett as Yasmin, Luxton Handspiker as Todd, Miley Haik as Mia, Liam Couvion as Newsie, Jess Brown as Mom, and Eden Gjoka as Cody.


Producers include Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House Pictures, as well as Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen of MXN Entertainment. From Ghost House, Romel Adam will be in charge.


Netflix has recently produced a slate of family live-action movies featuring kids and teens, which includes Tall Girl, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, and We can be Heroes.
