There’s really something about watching a singing competition with friends that hits the right spot. For someone who enjoys music and singing, reality singing competition TV shows feel like comfort. However, not all shows provide the same kind of experience. Way back, we all had those traditional singing shows where singers went head-to-head in battles, and there were judges with the final say on who stayed and who went home. We still have those kinds of singing competitions, but there are several shows with unique concepts that make it more fun.
So if you’re looking for reality singing competition TV series to watch on streaming services or elsewhere, we’ve got a great lineup for you to consider. Let’s talk about them below.
American Idol
21 Seasons | 661 Episodes
At this point, who wouldn’t know American Idol? Some of the biggest singers we know today are a product of American Idol, like Kelly Clarkson, and that says a lot already. We’re pretty sure you’ve already seen lots of clips from different seasons, but what we think makes American Idol so successful is how real it is. Like, it shows what it feels like to audition for something so big. We’ll see how nervous some are, some too confident, and some are just… well, beyond words. Bad auditions are something else, and it’s hilarious.
Building the Band
1 Season | 10 Episodes
If you’re looking for a fresher concept, you should try watching a few episodes of Building the Band and go from there. It’s about forming groups instead of solo battles. So, you’ll see a lot of “okay this might work” and “yeah… this isn’t gonna last”. The first time I watched this, there were moments that I cringed so bad, especially when the chemistry just isn’t there, and everyone can feel it. But that awkwardness is kind of the point. It’s really fun, so make sure to add it to your next TV streaming lineup.
The Masked Singer
13 Seasons | 170 Episodes
Not everyone has the ears of a bloodhound. And by that, we mean that not everyone can actually hear the true voice behind every performance. It’s so fun to watch with friends because you all have your guesses, yet somehow no one ever agrees. One person swears it’s a pop star, the other is convinced it’s an actor, but the reveal proves everyone wrong. Half the fun isn’t even the singing, to be honest.
I Can See Your Voice (Korean)
10 Seasons | 127 Episodes
There are lots of I Can See Your Voice adaptations, but the original is the Korean one. Contestants don’t even have to sing at first, so everyone’s sitting there trying to figure out who can actually carry a tune and who can’t based on attitude, looks, and some clues. This one’s really fun to binge-watch, so make sure that you have a reliable internet provider so that streaming is smooth and uninterrupted. Half the time, the ones everyone thought were amazing can’t really carry a note. Pure gold every single time if that happens.
The Voice (America)
21 Seasons | 661 Episodes
Of course, we can’t end this list without mentioning The Voice, a.k.a the biggest reality singing competition TV series, where the blind auditions are basically the main event. There’s something so satisfying about watching the coaches spin their chairs and steal contestants occasionally (our favorite part, to be honest). The disbelief of the coaches whenever this happens is so satisfying.
Reality singing competitions are basically made for friends’ nights, and nothing can convince us otherwise. If you have a circle that loves music and singing as much as you do, make sure to give these shows a try and get ready for a whole lot of fun. Enjoy watching!
