Picking up from where it left off, we see that in Episode 5, Maul has now started stepping into his role as the underworld leader. This episode focuses on the strategies he undertakes for the same. The main highlight also remains his interactions with Devon. We see how Maul is focusing on manipulation and takes a quieter pace when it comes to strengthening his power in the underworld. One won’t be seeing any big schemes; instead, at a slow pace, he is doing everything he can to get his foothold right. On Maul’s front, we see how he is balancing forces as well as fighting enemies. However, this slow pace can be annoying for viewers, as the plot has significantly slowed here.

In episode 6, we see some action. In a sharp contrast to episode 5, where everything was about strategies, episode 6 is all about calculations.  As we already know, Devon is in a constant struggle. That is also very much visible in all the decisions she takes, even as Maul’s influence continues to linger around. The question is, when will Devon’s internal struggle end? Will she be able to resolve her conflicts and see a clear demarcation?

Episodes 5 and 6 did what most of the previous episodes did, but more strongly: they solidified the position of Maul. Each episode is a reminder of what Maul is capable of doing and how he controls everything. All this is a gradual development of his character that is a stepping stone towards what we will be getting to see. Maul’s character arc is worth a watch in every passing episode. Obviously, it goes without saying that he is indeed the “star” of this show.

However, what I did not like in both episodes was the sluggish pacing, especially in episode 5. I understand that the makers wish to create a sense of understanding around Maul’s character. But in an attempt to do that, they did make the whole plot very slow, which gets annoying at times. Star Wars is always known to be fast-paced, but this installment isn’t like the previous ones. Also, as already mentioned, Maul’s character arc is getting developed. At the same time, even Devon’s arch is worth a watch. All this ensures that the characters we are getting to see are really good and interesting.

Another aspect of Star Wars: Maul- Shadow Lord is how well it has been made. Each episode we have seen so far is highly visually appealing. The viewing experience is a great one since it is indeed very attractive to the eyes. This is one area where the makers did not fail at all. This supports the overall storytelling at large.  Now, all we need to do is just wait and watch what the next episodes are in store for us. Maul’s calculated movements and Devon’s dilemma are becoming gripping with each passing episode.

Final Score- [7/10]
