If you are a fan of Jamie Vardy or have ever followed him in your life, you might be interested in watching the story of Untold UK: Jamie Vardy. The documentary traces Jamie Vardy’s rise from a non-league footballer to who he is now. Initially, he played football part-time by working in a factory and playing on weekends. Soon enough, he started playing professionally and became one of the leading players that the history of the United Kingdom had ever seen. One of his most memorable career highlights was Leicester City’s Premier League title charge in 2015-16. For those of you who watched him play, you all know the crucial role he had in helping Leicester City script history. With the help and support of family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the man himself- Jamie Vardy, the documentary is worth a watch. You will see how each of them comes forward to tell their side of the experience they have had with Jamie Vardy throughout his career.
What stands out the most is how the makers present the story of Jamie Vardy. They have gone to every extent to portray his perfections and imperfections. This isn’t any sugar-coated version of his life. Wherever things have gone south, the makers showed that, and the same went for his success stories. Most importantly, how he came into football is explored in great detail. That is the most crucial part of his life, and that has been given a good amount of screen time. While Vardy might not have started early the way other footballers did, he managed what he could and did it most amazingly ever. He managed to leave a mark in the industry in as unconventional ways as possible, and that is what matters.
But even with that, the plot has some issues. For example, most of the documentary is centered on Leicester City’s Premier League title. While that is a crucial aspect of Jamie Vardy’s career, too much focus is given to just that. As a result, most of the documentary feels a bit repetitive over time. For fans and viewers wanting to watch something else and different, this can cause a huge bummer. Also, since most of his journey is well known, I am not sure what “untold” we got here. Everything felt as if it was already there and had been converted into a documentary with Jamie Vardy’s voice.
The documentary occasionally falters with its pacing as well. That ends up disrupting the overall viewing experience, too. A slow-paced plot is one of the most annoying things that, as viewers, we can experience, and sadly, Untold UK: Jamie Vardy struggles heavily in that area. So if you are someone who can ignore these things and is a fan of Vardy, the documentary can be watched. Otherwise, this might bore you heavily in your attempts to watch a nice sports documentary.
Final Score- [6/10]
