The last time I saw Cagatay Ulusoy was in the hit drama Feriha and I was surprised to see him in a role like this. Çağatay Ulusoy takes on a bold and unconventional character in “A True Gentleman”, portraying Saygın, a male escort with a complex and layered persona. Known for his charm and good looks, Saygın knows how to run his “business,” making women feel special. His primary client is Serap, a wealthy woman trapped in an unhappy marriage. While Serap relies on Saygın for both emotional and physical comfort, she lavishes him with expensive gifts, hoping to bind him to her. Despite her generosity, she constantly urges him to leave his line of work, promising to take care of him financially.

Serap’s obsessive attachment to Saygın is further complicated by her personal life, particularly her daughter Fulya, a young woman with insecurities about her appearance. In an attempt to help, Saygın devises a plan to set Fulya up with his brother Kado, who is less adept at their escort business than Saygın. Surprisingly, Serap agrees to this arrangement, as her fixation on Saygın blinds her to the consequences.

The film takes a twist when Saygın crosses paths with Nehir, Fulya's best friend, during a New Year’s Eve encounter. There is undeniable chemistry between Saygın and Nehir, and the two are drawn to each other. However, Nehir is unaware of the secret relationship between Saygın and Serap. The tension builds as the story unfolds, leading to the inevitable revelation. What will happen when Nehir discovers Saygın’s connection to Serap? And how will this affect their budding romance?

“A True Gentleman” delves into the complexities of relationships, the blurred lines between emotional and physical needs, and the consequences of deception. Ulusoy delivers a stellar performance, breaking away from the stereotypes he has been associated with in previous roles. The supporting cast, especially Serap’s character played by Senay Gurler, adds depth to the narrative, creating a web of intrigue and drama. The beautiful Ebru Sahin as Nehir adds depth to the plot.

The plot is fast-paced and skillfully drives the narrative forward, ensuring viewers remain engaged throughout. It doesn’t just skim the surface of the main storyline but takes the time to delve deeper into the complexities of each character, adding emotional depth and nuance. The film masterfully weaves together the various personal struggles and motivations of the central figures, making their actions and decisions feel authentic and relatable.

Saygın’s journey, in particular, is layered with conflicting emotions—his professional detachment as a male escort clashes with the personal connections he inadvertently forms. His relationship with Serap, built on material gain and emotional dependency, brings out his pragmatic side, but his growing feelings for Nehir highlight a vulnerable, more human side of him. This character development gives the story a sense of depth, turning Saygın into more than just a slick, charming escort—he becomes a man caught between conflicting desires.

Overall, this film is a refreshing and captivating take on unconventional relationships, making it a must-watch for fans of Çağatay Ulusoy and those who enjoy thought-provoking dramas.
