‘Astrid & Lilly Save the World’ Officially Begins Filming at SYFY

SYFY's upcoming original series Astrid & Lilly Save the World has officially begun filming this week on Tuesday (September 7) in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Series creator Betsy Van Stone confirmed today that the production started on September 7th.

Update December 10: The filming of the sci-fi series, which deals with multi-dimensions, officially wrapped on December 9, 2022. The 10-episode first season will premiere on January 26 on SYFY.

Julia Doyle and Christina Orjalo are the latest actors to join Jana Morrison and Samantha Maureen Aucoin in the cast. Morrison will play Astrid, who is bold and unfiltered with a knack for "sciencey" gadgets. And Aucoin will play Lilly, who is sweet-natured and intuitive with a passion for investigative photography. 

Morrison is a Filipino-Canadian whose recent credits include NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist; Aucoin is making her debut with this series; this is also Julia Doyle's first series; Christina Orjalo has recently appeared in guest roles in Schitt's Creek and Secret Society of Second Born Royals.

As the title suggests the series is about two best friends Astrid and Lily and follows them as High school isn’t an easy time – but Astrid and Lilly would really like to blend in – or at least not be bullied because of their appearance. However, things become more complex when they accidentally open a portal to another dimension – a particularly dreadful end-of-the-world one. The fate of the planet is in their hands, and they must embrace “the badass heroes they were born to be” while simultaneously surviving high school.

Noelle Stehman and Betsy Van Stone, who also wrote the pilot episode, are the creators and executive producers of the 10-episode series. Jill Carter is directing the pilot episode.

Astrid & Lilly Save the World is executive produced by Stehman and Van Stone, along with Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, and Samantha Levine. Blue Ice Pictures will produce.
