‘Doom Patrol’ Becomes Most Downloaded TV Series This Week in India

The final episode of “Doom Patrol” season 2 aired this past Thursday (6th, Aug.) and now it has been trending as no. 1 downloaded TV series on torrent and illegal download websites in India. “Doom Patrol” is a DC Universe TV series that currently airs on HBO Max (Season 1 aired on DC Universe). The unavailability of HBO Max in India is one of the main reasons why “Doom Patrol” is getting downloaded in large numbers.

 

All download data are gathered from various torrent and illegal download sites over the internet that are generally showing their trending and most downloaded content.

 

Season 1 of the series has average viewership but received a good positive response from the critics. What added to the show popularity is another DC series “Titans” which is currently available on Netflix India. Due to the success of season 1, season 2 became popular and was one of the most awaited series among the DC fans.

 

After the “Doom Patrol,” season 2 trailer was released, there was a big spike in the download of the season 1 episodes on some major torrent and illegal download sites. Hence it is understood why “Doom Patrol” is one of the most downloaded series this week.

HBO Max was launched this year in May in the US and it is currently not available internationally. HBO airs most of its shows on other international platforms like Hotstar in India, HBO Asia in the middle east, and Sky in the UK but currently, it doesn't air any HBO Max originals outside the US. This can be a huge miss from HBO, as Max originals have become a major hit in illegal downloads.

 

It would have been much easier and convenient for the audience if HBO had decided to air their max originals outside the US, the same way they air HBO originals till the time when HBO Max launched internationally. With shows like "Raised by Wolves" airing next month, piracy is likely to rise at a much faster rate.

 

HBO Max is reportedly launching in some countries of Europe and Asia in 2021.

 

“Doom Patrol” was also trending no. 3 worldwide as most downloaded torrent this Friday along with "Marvels Agent of Shield" at no. 2 and "The Umbrella Academy" at no. 1.

 

The creators must understand that stopping piracy is not only audience responsibility but also the distributors. Making them available on legal digital platforms will help everyone for a better cause.
