A couple (Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme - and hilarious - circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.
The director Michael Showalter and crew brought a bland slight fun average comedy. The story is about a couple trying to survive their relationship while being mixed up in a murder mystery. I had high expectations, and with it I expected to really laugh, but the comedy was at the level of a smile, not laughter and this film was similar to Date Night (2010). The humor was flat, the backup of those lines was too forceful and it just takes away the purpose of the joke. The storyline was very basic and sometimes messy, the shine was towards the humor lines than the story. While I didn't laugh it doesn't mean it was a bad movie, I enjoyed it because it is a fun perspective of a couple struggling in their relationship.
The composer Michael Andrews uplifts the film with his retro music. I was shocked when I heard it and amazed by how well it fitted with this atmosphere.
The main actors Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae didn't make me laugh, but they are incredible and loved their chemistry. This film is worth it due to their pure entertainment and how magnificent they balanced each other.
Final Score: [6/10]
