The last time we got an official update regarding ‘The Wheel of Time’ was back in July 2022 during the San Diego Comic-Con, when the first teaser with BTS for Season 2 was revealed along with Season 3 confirmation. So that makes it eight months since any official news for Season 2.

Outside the internet and the US, we did get an update during the Delhi Comic-Con in India. Amazon executives revealed a list of shows that were slated to premiere this year on Prime Video India. This list included ‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 2, which was listed to premiere during the Spring of 2023, but it was made only available to the attendees of the Comic-Con and even after three months, it has never been revealed online or through any other medium.

The Spring release for Season 2 could have made sense, but seeing that there is no marketing campaign from Amazon, it is hard to expect that the show is going to premiere anytime soon. However, Amazon does have an empty slot that was occupied last year by The Rings of Power and could be used to fill that vacuum. ‘The Wheel of Time’ is the second biggest tentpole show created by Amazon after the Rings of Power and there could not be a better option.

The second season of The Wheel of Time wrapped up filming last year in April, and the show has already been in post-production for eight months. Considering that it involves a lot of work on the virtual screen, it may not be complete until now. So our best guess is that The Wheel of Time Season 2 is likely to release in August 2023 on Prime Video.

Based on Robert Jordan’s series of best-selling novels, “The Wheel of Time” follows Moiraine, a member of the highly powerful all-female organization known as the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small village of Two Rivers in a large, epic world where magic exists and only specific women are allowed to use it. There, she embarks on a perilous voyage across the globe with five young men and women, one of them is foretold to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

The leading cast of the first season includes Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Josha Stradowski, Madeleine Madden, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, Priyanka Bose, Kate Fleetwood, Sophie Okonedo, and Kae Alexander. The second season has added Thomas Chaanhing as Lord Agelmar, Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Lady Amalisa, Guy Roberts as Uno Nomesta, Arnas Fedaravicius as Masema Dagar, and Gregg Chillingirian as Ingtar Shinowa in the recurring roles.

In the Season 1 finale, Moiraine gives Rand a sa'angreal, an ancient relic that will help him defeat the Dark One. As the Fal Dara army is attacked by thousands of Trollocs, five women, including Nynaeve and Egwene, join together to fight the attack and eliminate the Trollocs. Except for Egwene, all burn from excessive channeling. Perrin discovers the Horn of Valere, which has the power to summon history's greatest warriors. Padan Fain steals it, exposing himself to be a Darkfriend who came to the Two Rivers in search of the five ta'veren. Lan finds Moiraine, who informs him that this was not the Last Battle.

Amazon has already revealed the first teaser for the second season while also renewing the show for a third season, which has reportedly planning to begin pre-production next month. The first season released in November 2021 saw a mixed reaction from the fans and critics, but overall they called it watchable.

Rafe Judkins is the showrunner along with an executive producer. Red Eagle Entertainment's Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage, Radar Pictures' Ted Field, and Mike Weber, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz will also serve as executive producers, with Briesewitz also directing the first two episodes. Rosamund Pike serves as Producer and Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson as consulting producers. The Wheel of Time is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

Amazon is all set to release more original shows this year as compared to the last year. The streamer has already released the second season of Carnival Row, Harlem, The Legends of Vox Machina, and Hunters, while several others have debuted this year including The Rig, Farzi, upcoming The Consultant, Daisy Jones and the Six, The Swarm, and many more. Invincible Season 2, Upload Season 3, Fallout, and many other titles are also expected to release later this year.
