Xochitl Gomez is the latest addition to the MCU as according to Deadline, she is set to star in MCU's upcoming Doctor Strange sequel “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” This will be the first big project of Netflix’s “The Baby-Sitters Club” star.
Benedict Cumberbatch returns to reprise the title role in the film with Sam Raimi taking over directing duties. Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also reprising their roles as Dr. Strange fellow sorcerer Wong and Karl Mordo, respectively.
Gomez portrayed Los Angeles transplant Dawn Schafer in “The Baby-Sitters Club.” The series, which earned overwhelmingly positive reviews, was based on Ann M. Martin’s popular book series. Gomez’s other credits include the TV show “You’re the Worst,” romance drama “Roped” and action-adventure “Shadow Wolves.”
Plot details of the film and Gomez’s character are put under wraps. Production will begin after Cumberbatch finishes filming on Spider-Man 3, where Cumberbatch also will be Spider-Man's mentor as Doctor Strange.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” is reportedly set to be related to the upcoming Disney Plus show WandaVision as well.
Sam Raimi replaced original director Scott Derrickson, who departed the project in January due to creative differences. Derrickson remains as an executive producer. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is currently slated to arrive in theaters on 25 March 2022.
