Looks like the latest update from the Bruce Lee-inspired WARRIOR is not going to be very satisfying for a lot of fans. Andrew Koji, who stars in the series as lead character Ah Sahm has revealed that they are planning to start filming on season 3 by spring 2022.
Koji was in an interview with Collider on his upcoming film Snake Eyes, where he told the interviewer that "It's gonna be a while before we start filming season 3, probably by spring or summer next year."
If we go by this interview and filming starts at least by March next year, it will take around August or September 2022 to finish and 3 to 4 months more to complete the post-production. That means the earliest we are going to see the third season will be January 2023, however, it totally depends on the duration of the shoot. According to showrunner Jonathan Tropper, the set in Cape Town will require extensive repair; it is still intact, but the majority of the sets have been destroyed and will have to be rebuilt.
The delay in production is very likely due to cast commitments to other projects, as not all of them expected the third season when Cinemax refused to produce. Season 3 writers are yet to be assembled and begin drafting the screenplay as per the last update during the show's renewal. Earlier, WARRIOR was not very popular. It was only after it arrived on HBO Max in January this year. As soon as it became very popular on the streamer, HBO Max decided to acquire and renew it for another season. HBO Max will be producing season 3 along with Perfect Storm Entertainment, Bruce Lee Entertainment, and Tropper Ink Productions.
Season 2 of the series arrived in October 2020 and became an instant hit among the audiences of Cinemax, HBO Max, and Hotstar soon after its arrival. WARRIOR was called one of the most underrated TV series currently airing by critics all over the Internet.
Andrew Koji, Kieran Bew, Celine Buckens, Dean Jagger, Langley Kirkwood, Olivia Cheng, Miranda Raison, Dianne Doan, Maria-Elena Laas, Hoon Lee, Christian McKay, Dustin Nguyen, Chen Tang, Joe Taslim, Jason Tobin, Joanna Vanderham, Tom Weston-Jones, and Perry Yung starred in season two of the series.
